What Are the Types of Palisade Fencing?
Fortifying properties date back to ancient Rome and Greece where palisade fencing in the form of wooden stakes was used as a means to protect small forts or castles. Building on that principle, wooden stakes were replaced by white picket fences for more aesthetic appeal providing the bare minimum protection. With the crime rates continuously increasing together with the need for better protection, the charm of white picket fences has been replaced by the secure line of defence offered by steel palisade fencing.
With the rising crime rate in mind, Chemvet Steel & Fencing offers clients different types of palisade fencing dependent on their security requirements providing much-needed protection whilst maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the property.
Formidable Designs
Being able to secure a property, whether it is domestic, commercial, or industrial, with the added benefit of the visual appeal of clean lines and visibility to both property owners and security companies or police is what you can expect when you install this fence type. The degree of security offered depends on the type of design you select.
- 3-Spike – As the name suggests, the top of the palisade fencing has three sharp points. Some property owners choose to have the middle spike straight and the ones on either side slightly bent making it more difficult for would-be intruders to grab onto the top vertical bar.
- 7-Spike – This type of palisade fencing is gaining in popularity as they provide more spots to snag intruders. Almost burr-like in design, the top has three spikes and a bit lower down in a V-shape on either side of the palings are an additional four spikes.
- Devil’s Fork – Shaped to look like a devil’s fork, this design has two sharp spikes on top of the palings.
No matter what design you choose, palisade fencing provides a formidable, yet surprisingly attractive barrier.
Benefits of Palisade Fencing
Several advantages make this fence type particularly popular in residential areas as well as commercial and industrial properties:
- Cost-effective and durable
Fencing in any shape or form is an investment. As such, you want your investment to last. The cost of this fence type is competitive when you compare it to building a brick wall making it not only a more affordable option but an effective one too.
- Keeps out potential intruders
Palisade fencing is a fantastic crime deterrent. Your property is not hidden which has a two-fold advantage of allowing security companies to see through it and leaving nowhere for intruders to hide. They are also quite difficult to climb as they provide no foothold.
- Durability and longevity
Made from iron, this type of fencing has proven itself in terms of durability and longevity. Manufactured using 2mm of iron makes it difficult for one to bend or cut through the palings. Trying to use a power tool to cut through the palings still takes time and will draw attention. If need be, it can be painted to blend in with the existing colour scheme of your home or property.
Besides security, these fences are often used to close off designated areas such as secure parking facilities and sports grounds.
